ITIN application
The ITIN serves as your identification number to file your taxes. Our offices are well-equipped with certified tax professionals and Certified Acceptance Agents (CAAs) across the country to guide you through the ITIN number application or ITIN renewal process.

Apply for and use an ITIN.

If you are working and earning money in the United States, but do not have or qualify for a Social Security Number, you will need an ITIN. You can apply for an ITIN tax number for yourself, your spouse, and your dependents when you file your tax return with us.

This is what an ITIN can help you do.

File taxes and claim benefits: File your taxes and claim tax benefits for qualifying dependents

Receive a tax refund: Get a refund of income tax withholding from the IRS, if you qualify.

Open a bank account: Open a bank account or apply for a home loan, if you qualify.

Why do I need an ITIN?

Let’s say you’re working and earning money in the United States, but you don’t qualify for a Social Security Number. An ITIN (Individual Taxpayer Identification Number, Tax Identification Type, or Taxpayer Identification) will serve as your identification number for filing your tax returns. If you do not qualify for a social security number (SSN), you will need to apply for an ITIN.

This is what your ITIN does:

Allows you to get a refund from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) for income tax withholding if you qualify
Allows you to file your taxes and claim tax benefits for qualifying dependents.

May allow you to open a bank account or apply for a home loan.

Therefore, your ITIN tax ID not only helps you file a tax return but also ensures that you get the refund you deserve as quickly as possible.

When should you apply for an ITIN number?

You can file via Form W-7 with your federal tax return during tax season between January and April or any time you have a filing requirement.

How long does it take to get an ITIN?

After applying for an ITIN and qualifying for an ITIN number, you could receive a letter from the IRS assigning your tax identification number in as little as seven weeks. However, the speed in which it takes to obtain an ITIN number depends on the volume of inquiries the IRS receives: it can take nine to eleven weeks during busy periods.
